Financial Aid Information for All Students
Students should file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon after December 1 as possible, but before March 1 to ensure access to all aid programs. Our Federal School Code is 001416.

Exit counseling
Exit counseling is a process that must be completed by undergraduate and graduate students. The requirements for completing an exit interview are graduation, withdrawal, or if you drop below half-time attendance. The counseling session provides information about how to manage your student loans after college.

NOTE: if you received both types of loans you MUST do both exits. The University may hold your transcripts and/or degree until we have received notification of your completed exit(s).

Loan consolidation
Loan consolidation allows you to refinance any or all eligible outstanding federal student loans and create a single new loan with one monthly payment. The combining of existing loans into one new loan can result in lower monthly payments but higher total debt. The new loan will have a fixed interest rate, new terms, and may have an extended repayment period of up to 30 years.

You MUST apply for financial aid every year by completing the FAFSA on or after October 1. The FAFSA can be completed online. We strongly recommend that all students complete their aid application by February 1 (UB Preferred deadline) and February 15 (State of Connecticut deadline).

There are no income cutoffs when determining a student’s financial aid eligibility. Many factors are taken into consideration when determining a student’s ability to pay besides income. Therefore, it is necessary to complete a FAFSA in order to determine what you qualify for.
New applicants to University of Bridgeport must be accepted for admission before an aid award letter will be sent to them. Once accepted an award packet will be sent for review. All students must have a processed FAFSA on file in order to receive a financial aid award letter. Returning students award letters will be available online through their UB Portal.
You are REQUIRED to apply for financial aid each year. Sometimes family situation changes; another child attends college, a parent returns to the workforce, or a parent dies. For the most part if your family situation does not change from year to year your award letter will remain unchanged.
There are circumstances that will enable the financial aid office to adjust a student’s aid eligibility. These circumstances could include the following: job loss due to unemployment or illness, a one-time benefit that affected your federal adjusted gross income, separation or divorce, or unusual medical expenses. If conditions such as these occur during any of your four years at University of Bridgeport, please contact the financial aid office. Do not send any letters to the federal aid-processing center. They are not able to adjust your aid eligibility.
Verification is a process to confirm information you provided on the FAFSA. You may have been chosen because: 30% of our student population is randomly selected by the Department of Education, the FAFSA information submitted was incomplete or inconsistent or the FAFSA contains estimated information. If you are selected for verification, you must provide specific documentation that has been requested by the Office of Student Financial Services. Please be advised that documentation for verification is time sensitive and must be submitted in a timely manner to ensure proper payment on your account.
You must complete BOTH a Master Promissory Note and a Entrance Counseling at http://www.studentaid.gov
All financial aid, with the exception of work study funds (funds MUST be earned), will be credited to your billing account in two equal disbursements: fall and spring. Once your charges have been paid (tuition, fees, food and housing), any additional funds will be refunded to you to help pay for off-campus living costs, books, or personal expenses. Please enroll in the direct deposit option on your myUB portal to have funds deposited into your bank account. If a direct deposit is not completed, a refund check will be mailed to the student.

Only United States Citizens, permanent residents or Eligible non-citizens are eligible to qualify for Federal Financial Aid. As an International Student you may qualify for a private loan with a co-worthy US citizen.

No student information can be released unless we have a completed Family Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) form on file listing whom is entitled to receive that information.
All students MUST have medical insurance that is compatible to the insurance offered by the University. If students have medical, insurance they can waive it by visiting haylor.com/college/university-of-bridgeport and completing an insurance waiver form.
Refunds can be sent via direct deposit or by check in the mail. If direct deposit is not set up, a refund check will be mailed to the student. To set up direct deposit, log into your UB portal. Once logged in, click on Billing & Payments, then click eRefunds to have funds deposited into your bank account.

At the end of January, each year 1098T Tax Forms are mailed to the current address on file. Forms may also be obtained online at http://heartland.ecsi.net as of January 31st of each year.
NOTE: You must have a valid social security number to be eligible to receive a 1098T form.
- Go to http://heartland.ecsi.net
- Scroll down to the bottom and click on where it says Access Your 1098 Tax Documents.
- Click where it says Want to look up your 1098-T or 1098-E tax form.
- Click on I need my 1098-T Tuition tax statement.
- Type University of Bridgeport and click submit.
- Enter the student’s personal information (name, social security number, and zip code). If you have trouble, be sure to try the dorm zip code (if applicable) and home zip code.
- If you click on View Details on the right, you will get an option to View/Print. Click on it to download the form and print it.
